In the early 80s, it was said that all you needed to make great hip-hop was two turntables and a microphone. Two turntables and a microphone, and you could make yourself heard.
Today, we introduce Bold Yin’s Two Camcorders & one Microphone initiative.
It’s a philosophy that establishes a technical upper limit to home-brew non-broadcast comedy – allowing us, and you, to be ALWAYS MAKING COMEDY.
The upper limit, in terms of technical hardware, is 2 cameras and one microphone. One camera and one microphone is fine. One camera with on-board sound recording is fine. Two cameras and one microphone is fine. Anything more than that is against the spirit of the movement.
Specialised film or video lighting equipment are not permitted. Use whatever light exists where you shoot..
Sound and music may be added in the edit phase.
All 2C1M projects should be within the comedy genre.
All 2C1M projects should carry the official 2C1M barcode logo somewhere in the film. This might be a placement of the logo on the credits, or something more imaginative (Street Art on a wall, a tattoo).
Innovate. There is no-one to tell you what type of comedy will or won’t work. No-one to tell you that something is too adult, or not adult enough. You’re not trying to sell anything to anybody. Speak with your own voice, and make brilliant comedy.
Anything that you make that flies under the 2C1M banner belongs to you in its entirety. However, we will be showcasing the best 2C1M projects on the Bold Yin site, and through this process we’ll hopefully find people that we’re desperate to work with on other, bigger projects. This is how we’ll grow our collaborative family, and we’ll do it while we’re always making comedy.
Good luck. Let’s change things.
